Young-do is an island where I was born and grew up. ‘Young-do’ is the correct translation for a place name but I translated ‘Young Island’ as the painting is a landscape of the island from my childhood memory. Looking at the mainland of Busan by the Youngdo bridge, the heavy bodies of reddish-brown cargo ships were always right in front of my face in the dimming air of pinkish sunset I remember.
