Minhwa, 23 x 23 cm, Color on Korean Paper
Abyun_Sung_Ryong_do (魚變成龍圖) means ‘Picture of a fish becoming a dragon’. Dragon in Korean Minhwa is a symbol of greatness, Mysterious power and success.
The fish in the picture is dreaming of becoming a dragon and ascending into the sky someday. This kind of picture was popular among pupils studying to be a government official which was considered to be the most successful job in Joseon Dynasty. It was believed that the picture will give good inspiration and energy for those with full of hope and ambition.
Even now, Abyun_Sung_Ryong_do is a great present for business starters and Minhwa lovers wishing them good luck for their business.
I liked the way the color of paper turned out like denim-wash blue when I dyed it for this painting. Only blue and silver pigment is used.
